Town of New Baltimore
NY Route 144 Complete Streets Study
Welcome to the Town of New Baltimore, NY Route 144 "Complete Streets" Study Website!
The Town of New Baltimore is undertaking a "Complete Streets" study of the portion of NY Route 144 that extends between Gill Road and the New Baltimore Town Limit.
What is meant by a "Complete Streets" approach? Complete Streets is an approach or philosophy used to plan, design and operate streets in a way that enables and stresses safe design, use and mobility for users of all ages and abilities, including drivers, pedestrians, bicyclists, or public transportation riders.
Many municipalities of all types have already, or are currently adopting and implementing, Complete Streets guidelines in planning for or remediation of their roads.
How is this study funded? Funding for this study is provided through the New York State Department of Transportation Region 1 using State Dedicated Fund. The Town of New Baltimore has engaged MJ Engineering, Architecture, Landscape Architecture, and Land Surveying, P.C. as the project consultant. NY Route 144 is owned and maintained by the New York State Department of Transportation with staff from Region 1 collaborating on this project.
What is the Background that initiated this Study? This study is being undertaken as a direct response by the Town to look into the concerns regarding traffic and pedestrian safety in this portion of NY Route 144, that were voiced predominantly by residents living along the SR 144 corridor in the national historic district, or Hamlet, and by individuals who regularly visit the Hamlet for church services.
These concerns were raised both during the March 13, 2023 Town board meeting, and in a petition that subsequently was submitted to the Town by these residents and visitors.
This website is just one of the ways the project will inform the public of its activities. Visit this website to stay up-to-date on the latest information and participate in activities to engage the townspeople in discussions related to the study.
